TOMS Giving: Improving People's Lives With Fashion

TOMS is not just a company, it’s a movement which emerged through love and compassion towards people. In addition to bags, socks and spectacles, TOMS mostly sells shoes and gives a pair of shoes to a child in need for each pair bought. Here, passion for fashion and engagement are combined.

In 2006 TOMS founder, Blake Mycoskie, was travelling through Argentina, while he came across a small Argentinian Town, where he got to know children who were growing up without shoes. He wanted to find a solution for this problem and turned this solution into a profit-oriented but sustainably economic company, which would not be dependent on donations. This resulted in the One to One™ initiative by which, for every pair of shoes bought a pair of shoes are donated to a child in need.

Every purchase serves a good purpose

The One for One™ movement of TOMS includes 6 areas: shoes, eyesight, water, safe birth, bullying prevention and solar energy. Thus the donations don’t end with shoes, but expand the vision and help many other people in need. With the purchase of a pair of glasses, a person in need receives a comprehensive eye examination by a medical expert and is subsequently treated according to their needs. For every sold TOMS Roasting CO. Coffee package TOMS provides 140 litres of clean water. By purchasing TOMS bags, TOMS Giving Partners are supported in the distribution of important equipment that allows women to have safe birth everywhere. Likewise, thanks to the sale of TOMS products, solar energy is donated and bullying prevention programs financed.

Give a smile with shoes

Next to the classic TOMS shoes, inspired by the Argentinian espadrilles, TOMS also offers winter shoes, ankle boots, sneakers, slippers and lace-up shoes in their product range. In this way, there is something for every fashion- and social-conscious customer. So far, more than 75 million shoe have been donated to children in need, with an increasing tendency. TOMS offers their more than 90 Giving Partners a variety of shoe styles, based on the different requirements of the environment, terrain and the respective children.
