The story behind Owala

Owala was launched in March 2020 by Trove Brands LLC, a family-run company from Utah that started out as BlenderBottle back in 2000. The idea: most water bottles are either overkill or just don't cut it functionally – who needs a bottle built for Everest just to commute to work? The FreeSip spout came about because customers were repurposing BlenderBottle shakers as water bottles – seven years of development followed before the product successfully hit the market under the new Owala name. In 2023, the FreeSip bottle made Time's list of the 200 best inventions, and in 2025 it picked up the Red Dot Design Award.

FreeSip® – the heart of every Owala bottle

The patented FreeSip® spout combines two drinking modes: sip through the built-in straw or drink straight from the wide opening – decide on the spot, whatever works. Add a push-to-open mechanism, a loop handle that doubles as a carry strap, and a leak-proof build. The double-wall vacuum insulation keeps drinks cold for up to 24 hours. Available in 16, 18, 24 and 30 oz – all models BPA-free, lead-free and phthalate-free. The Sway model adds an extra locked mechanism for on-the-go security.
