Wetsuits – high tech, style and surfing fun for all water conditions
Since their invention by Jack O'Neill in the 1950s, wetsuits have undergone impressive development. Modern surfing wetsuits combine advanced technologies with stylish designs. Our extensive selection and expert advice will help you find the perfect wetsuit for your needs.
The perfect wetsuit for every water temperature
Whether you need a shorty for warm summer days, a steamer for cooler waters or a polar wetsuit for icy waves, there is a wetsuit for every condition. The thickness of the material plays an important role here. Here you will find a guide to suitable suits.
- A 5/4 mm wetsuit is suitable for water temperatures between 9°C and 13°C.
- A 4/3 mm suit is ideal for water temperatures between 12°C and 17°C.
- For warmer conditions between 16°C and 20°C, 2/3 mm is suitable.
- For water temperatures above 21°C, 1 mm or 2 mm thick wetsuits are recommended.
Always take your personal preferences and sensitivity to cold into account.
Closure options for wetsuits: from back zip to no zip
The closure of a wetsuit has a direct influence on its function and handling.
Back zip
Back zip wetsuits are easy to put on and take off, but offer less stretch as the zip runs down the entire back.
Chest zip
Chest zips offer optimal adjustability and are still relatively easy to put on. The zip on the chest does not interfere with paddling and can usually be adjusted for a better fit.
No zip
No zip wetsuits offer maximum comfort and freedom of movement, but are a little more difficult to handle and may therefore take a little longer to get into before you can paddle out into the waves.
You can find additional information about the different closure systems in our Wetsuits Buyer's Guide.
Lycras and rash guards for long days in the sun
In warmer waters, a wetsuit isn't necessary, but protection from the sun and abrasions is still important. Manufacturers such as O'Neill, Rip Curl and Quiksilver offer a wide range of Lycras and rash guards for women, men and children.
More sustainable wetsuits made from natural rubber and recycled materials
More and more manufacturers, such as Patagonia, are also using a high proportion of recycled materials or neoprene-free Yulex® natural rubber. Here you will find a more sustainable selection of wetsuits and lycras.
Accessories for your surfing adventure
Complete your outfit with gloves, hoods and booties for colder conditions. In addition to wetsuits, we also offer a wide range of alternatives for warmer days. For conditions where less insulation is needed, springsuits and shorties, as well as Lycra and rash guards, are ideal options. They offer protection from the sun and abrasions while ensuring freedom of movement and comfort in the water. Special cleaners and surf wax also ensure that your equipment is always ready for action.
