The Ultralight Butterfly splitboard was developed for high alpine tours where weight and performance are crucial. The shape is compact but offers a super long effective edge thanks to outwardly enlarged contact points. Therefore, Jones maximises edge hold in extreme conditions. The latest technologies in board construction and lightweight materials make the Ultralight Butterfly a splitboard in a class of its own.
Riding Style
This board was designed for extreme tours in high alpine terrain.
Shape
The Tapered Directional Shape shows its strength in the backcountry. Pop is concentrated in the tail, providing ample floatation and control in all terrain and snow conditions. Taper means a narrower tail than the nose, which provides more float in deep snow because the tail sinks in more easily, lifting the nose out. Traction Tech 3.0, the wavy edge, provides the best edge hold in all conditions and is found on the inside and outside edges of this board.
Profile
The traditional full camber profile offers incredible edge hold. As the camber transitions into the bevelled 3D Contour Base at the tip and tail, and thus the edges are slightly bent up at the contact points, you enjoy more float and less surface area to tilt.
Flex
The stiff flex is highly responsive and agile.
Construction
The Ultra construction is the high-end construction from Jones. Only the best materials and technologies are used here. The new Fusion Core is Jones' lightest wood core to date. It is made mostly of Paulownia with specifically positioned poplar pockets for improved durability and response. Tiax fibreglass provides a responsive ride. Bio Resin is plant-based and used instead of petroleum-based epoxy, making production a little more environmentally friendly. The Ultra Base material is fast, easy to repair and takes wax extremely well. The rubber for dampening the edges and the ABS in the sidewalls is made from 100 % recycled material. All Jones boards are 'Ready to shred' and are factory waxed with natural WEND wax, as well as being lightly rounded on the tip and tail to get you on the mountain right out of the shop. Karakoram Ultra Clips 3C with Tip-Lock were developed exclusively for Jones and keep their tension even after years.
