For the last ten years, Zumiez has searched for the best and most promising amateur Skateboarders to help them start a career as Pro Skateboarders. This summer, for the first time, Blue Tomato is hosting four European stops of the tour. The Best Foot Forward tour can be a kick start for a professional career in Skateboarding.
The four stops in Berlin, Cologne, Innsbruck and Zürich/Winterthur are as diverse as the riders themselves. The contest is open to female and male skaters of all ages and without any entry fee.
For the first time, Blue Tomato is offering European skaters the chance to compete in an international contest and prove themselves to the world.
This year’s Best Foot Forward tour is the biggest one yet, with forty-seven stops in total. Next to forty stops in the USA, two in Canada and one in Australia the tour will take place in four different stops in Europe. Blue Tomato takes the tour to the best skateparks in:

The winner from every stop receives an all-expenses paid trip to the Zumiez Best Foot Forward Finals in the USA, exposure to the industry brands, shopping vouchers from Blue Tomato and prizes from the tour sponsors. The contestant that place second and third will also receive prizes from the tour promoters.
Overall top three finalists in the USA will win an all-expenses paid one-week road trip together with THE BERRICS including filming sessions at famous skate spots, access to the top private skate parks, exclusive experience from industry leading brands and their top pros, sponsorships and much more.
Many winners of the past years have reached the top of World Skateboarding. Skaters like Jack Olsons, Alec Majerus and Chris Wimer have won the Best Foot Forward Tour. Two of the most successful winners are Tom Asta and Ishod Wair, who are now competing in the top class of the Street League.
Tour stop no. 1: Berlin

The first tour stop of the Zumiez Best Foot Forward tour was supposed to take place in Berlin on June 30th at the Vogelfreiheit Skatepark at the Tempelhofer Feld. The day before the event Berlin experienced some of the hardest rainfalls of all time, but it seemed like the weather would stay nice and the park would stay dry. Sadly, it started raining right after registrations had opened. Even though it stopped from time to time and all efforts to dry the park with brooms, wipers and leave blowers, it started raining again. In the end, we had to accept the fact that the weather was not on our side that day and we had to cancel the tour stop in Berlin.

Tour stop no. 2: Cologne
Therefore, the second planned stop in Cologne was the first European stop for the worlds biggest AM Skateboard Contest Series. Registrations were once again interfered by some rain, but luckily later after drying the park with brooms, wipers and a little help from the sun, and the contest could start.
Seven heats of three riders each competed against each other in three-minute long Jam session to enter the finals. Local riders from Cologne were sending it at the skatepark KAP686 together with international riders and showed what they are capable off. The #bluetomatoteam rider Philipp Schuster supported the American judges. The American legend Patrick Melcher was announcing the contest and supported by local OG Pav, who entertained the crowd with first class German humor.
In between, the heats a spontaneous Flip-In-Manny-Flip-Out Challenge was started which the Cologne local Bobby Gray won with a Kickflip Manny Tre Flip out. For that trick, he earned two packs of Bones Bearings.

The nine best riders from the prelims battled against each other in the finals, again in three-minute sessions. The podium was very international, third place went to Andrej, who was born in Russia, the local Tim Hachen placed second and the Austrian Marco Kada won the Best Foot Forward tour stop in Cologne and will therefore be representing Europe in the Best Foot Forward Finals in September in the USA.

After the finals, a Best Trick Jam Session took place at the pyramid, where we witnessed a big variety of Flips and Manny Flip Outs. Marcel Weber sadly was unsuccessful with his many tries to conquer the whole obstacle and with this the Gap with a BS 360, and so at the end Tim Hachen landed a 270 Switch 5-0 Shove It and won the Best Trick Jam Session, earning many prizes from the Tour Sponsors Bones, Converse Cons and G-Shock.

Tour stop no. 3: Innsbruck
Tour stop number three of the Best Foot Forward Europe Tour 2017 took place at the WUB Halle in Innsbruck, which felt more like a sauna that day. The English speaker Patrick Melcher got support from the local German speaking Robert Schremko. With local riders such as Patrik Pittl and other riders from all of Austria like Marcel Rieger or Blue Tomato Teamrider Chsristopher Scherscher, the 11 heats were again very mixed. Joscha Aicher and Tobi Fleischer represented Germany and Andrej Tarasov, who placed third in Cologne, was competing again.

The best nine were Marco Kada, Tobi Fleischer, Blue Tomato Shop Innsbruck team rider Simon Riederer, Marcel Rieger, Patrik Pittl, Santino Exenberger, Andrej Tarasov, Joscha Aicher and the surprise of the day: the only 12-year-old Kris Havaux.
After very hot and intense finals the 16 year-old local Santino Exenberger got first place and is flying to the USA in September to represent Europe there.

Of course the contest would not have been complete without another epic Best Trick Jam Session, which was held at the stair set and rail.
Tour stop no. 4: Zurich
The last European stop of the Best Foot Forward Tour brought us to Switzerland, to be exact to the Skills Park in Winterthur, near Zurich. Many Swiss came out to skate the hell out of this this perfect skatepark and prove to the judges that they needed to be sent to the USA to the finals in September.

Quite a few Austrians went on a trip to Switzerland and four finalists from Innsbruck, namely Marco Kada, Simon Rieder, young gun Kris Havaux and the winner Santino Exenberger competed again in Winterthur. The nine finalists were chosen out of eleven Heats with two riders each and Marco Kada and Santino Exenberger got the cut into the finals again. However, both of them had to surrender against the very competitive locals.

At the end Simon Stricke, followed by Noel Schaerer in second place and Luca Pavinato in third place. This means Simon, Santina and Marco will go to the USA in September and battle against almost 40 other riders.
