Snowboard Grabs Yoga Flow

When the resorts close, snowboard enthusiasts are left with only the options to ride on a glacier or prepare for the coming winter. In recent years, yoga has become more and more popular, firstly because it increases concentration, and secondly because it increases flexibility. Especially the latter helps a lot to reach grabs on the snowboard. So why not combine both? Welcome to Snowboard Grab Yoga!

What do we need?

Similar to classical yoga, a mat or blanket is highly recommended. It is best to find a place in your apartment with plenty of space to avoid accidentally destroying something. Snowboarding is and remains, even at home, an extreme sport. For our yoga interpretation we also need a snowboard with mounted bindings, snowboard boots and gloves so that you don't hurt your hands on your edges. Thin pipegloves are best suited for this.

Step in and let's go!

Put your snowboard in the middle of your mat or carpet and strap your feet in as usual. Now you can easily do a dry run with all the grabs you know - to bring in a yoga-like flow, our colleague Nico has come up with the following order. Maybe you will also get to know completely new grabs?

These snowboard grabs are yoga ready

  • Double Nosegrab: both hands grab the nose of the snowboard
  • Double Tailgrab: both hands grab the tail of the snowboard
  • Indy/Frontside Nosebone: the back hand grabs the toe edge of the snowboard between the bindings in front of the body, the front leg is stretched out
  • Indy/Frontside Tailbone: same as before, but the back leg is extended
  • Mute Nosebone: your front hand grabs the toe edge of the snowboard in front of your body between the bindings, the front leg is stretched out
  • Mute Tailbone: same as before, but the back leg is extended
  • Gorilla Grab / Double Stiffy: both hands grab the toe edge of the snowboard in front of the body between the bindings. For the Double Stiffy straighten your legs
  • Stalefish Grab: the back hand grabs the heel edge of the snowboard behind the body between the bindings. The back leg is stretched out
  • Melon Grab: the front hand grabs the heel edge of the snowboard behind the body between the bindings. The front leg is stretched out
  • Tail grab: the back hand grabs the tail of the snowboard
  • Nose grab: the front hand grabs the nose of the snowboard
  • Crail Grab: the back hand grabs the nose of the snowboard in front of the body
  • Seatbelt Grab: the front hand grabs the tail of the snowboard in front of the body
  • Roast beef: the back hand reaches from the front through the legs to the heel edge between the bindings, the back leg is stretched out
  • Chicken Salad Grab: the back hand is turned 360 degrees in the direction of the nose and reaches from the front through the legs to the heel edge between the bindings, the front leg is stretched out
  • Beef Mellington: the front hand reaches from the front through the legs to the heel edge between the bindings, the front leg is extended
  • Stelmasky Grab: the front hand is turned 360 degrees in the direction of the tail and reaches from the front through the legs to the heel edge between the bindings, the back leg is stretched out
  • Cannonball: the front hand grabs the nose and the back hand grabs the tail at the same time
  • Truck Driver: the rear hand grabs Indy and the front hand simultaneously grabs Melon
  • Drunk Driver: the back hand grabs Stalefish and the front hand grabs Mute at the same time
  • Canadian Bacon Grab: the back hand reaches from behind through the legs to the toe edge
  • Taipan grave: the front hand reaches from behind through the legs to the toe edge
  • Backside Air / Method: the front hand grabs the heel edge, the rear leg is extended and thus the base of the snowboard is turned in "flight direction". Traditionally the Backside Air is grabbed between the bindings, the Method in front of the front binding. (Attention: here the opinions differ, e.g. Europe vs. North America)
  • Switch Method: see Backside Air / Method, but with the other hand and turned in the other direction
  • Japan Grab: the front hand grabs the toe edge between the bindings around the front knee, then the board is pulled back / "tweaked".
  • Tuck Knee: the back hand grabs around the back knee to the toe edge between the bindings, then the board is pulled back / "tweaked".
  • Nuclear Method: the back hand grabs the heel edge in front of the body similar to the crail
  • Switch Nuclear: like the Nuclear Method, but with the front hand and turned in the other direction

Namastay at home!

We hope you were able to enjoy our new form of yoga and are already prepared a little better for the coming season.
