Freestyle Roots 2025: Skaters Fly Over a City Bus & Rappers Bring the Heat

What. A. Weekend.

Thun turned into the ultimate freestyle playground as Freestyle Roots hit its fifth round – and it was nothing short of legendary. Over 8,000 people came out to celebrate three days packed with style, sound, and stoke around the Stockhorn Arena. The vibe? Pure energy. The weather? Perfect autumn gold. The mix of sports, music, and urban culture? Totally on point.

More than 200 riders and artists dropped in across snow, asphalt, and stage – showing off their skills and creativity. The skate setup got a serious upgrade this year, complete with fresh obstacles and one wild highlight: skaters sending it over a full-size city bus. Yeah, you read that right. The team battle was all about flow, finesse, and fearlessness – and in the end, Noel Schärer and Jan Hirt rolled away with the win.

For the first time ever, the Rap Battle hit the Roots stage – and it went off. Bar for bar, the best Swiss MCs battled it out, with Nyne MC taking the crown in a fire finale against Mephisto. The crowd was all in – proving that in Thun, music and freestyle are one and the same.

It wasn’t just boards and bars either. The weekend featured snowboarding, skiing, biking, breaking, graffiti jams, and creative workshops for all ages. The Rock A Rail Tour dropped in for its third Thun edition, bringing international heavy hitters to the snow setup. Colin Frans (USA) and Livia Tanno (SUI) took the snowboard titles, while Tyler Nicholls (IRL) and Ellen Damsgaard (DEN) ruled the ski podiums.

After three days of good vibes and non-stop action, the two event heads Jérôme Hunziker and Daniel Schmid couldn’t hide their stoke:

“Finally, perfect autumn weather – dry, cool, and just right to keep our snow alive,” said Jérôme Hunziker with a grin. “Freestyle Roots only works thanks to our local legends, partners, and all the volunteers who pour their hearts into it.”

Daniel Schmid added:

“The community around Freestyle Roots keeps growing – it’s become part of the culture. We’re already dreaming up ideas for 2026. Same spirit, new twists, more freestyle.”

With its fifth edition, Freestyle Roots has locked in its spot as one of Switzerland’s most unique freestyle and culture festivals – where sport, art, and music come together in pure freestyle harmony.
