Athletes can qualify for the World Rookie Finals through the iconic "World Rookie Fests" (worldrookietour.com) and via the official World Rookie Rank (worldrookietour.com/ranking). Since the 2025/26 season, the World Rookie Street Tour, run together with Rock A Rail, brings the Rookie Fest format to urban rail setups in Hintertux, Riga and The Hague.
The prizes speak the language of progression: from spots at Rock A Rail and the Absolute Park Spring Battle to tickets for world-class events, World Rookie Camp training weeks, surf trips, wildcards and fixed starting places in international competitions. Germany's Marie Kuhlmann won Rock A Rail Innsbruck as a Grom, then took two World Rookie Snowboard Champion titles at Kitzsteinhorn in March 2026.
Over the years, the tour has revealed riders who later became household names: Roope Tonteri, Christian Haller, Sven Thorgren, Kokomo Murase, Ulrik Samnøy among them. More recently, Hiroto Ogiwara, World Rookie Slopestyle Champion 2021 and 2022, landed the first 2340 in competition history and won back-to-back X Games Big Air titles in 2025 and 2026. At Milano Cortina 2026, 29 former Rookies competed at the Olympics and won 13 medals, 5 of them gold. The next wave is already here: Mariia Nikolskaia (three World Rookie titles at the 2026 Snowboard Finals), Kalle Palkinen (World Rookie Freeski Slopestyle Champion 2026) and Irene Panzavolta (World Rookie Skateboard Champion 2025 and winner of Women's Street at the 2026 Mystic Sk8 Cup).
Beyond contests, the World Rookie Camps give young riders time to train with pro coaches, from the Hintertux glacier to Lapland, Les Deux Alpes, Modena and Riva del Garda, where the first WRT camp combining BMX and skateboard took place in 2026.
But the World Rookie Tour is more than a competition circuit. Fun and education sit at the core of the WRT philosophy. Every event blends sport progression with cultural activities and workshops on avalanche awareness, photography, video creation, sustainability, mental wellbeing and inclusion. The goal is simple: help young riders grow not only as athletes, but as thoughtful, responsible and confident members of the global community.
