O'Neill Freeride Camp
Girls go backcountry – A safe bet for some backcountry fun

After four successful years the O’Neill Girls Freeride Camps presented by Blue Tomato & K2 once again take place this season. For those of you who couldn’t get a place last year, now there’s another chance to score some lines through pristine, deep snow and, and the same time, to really learn something. Adrenaline-hungry participants will learn about avalanche awareness, risk management and off-piste riding. Other exciting points that will be covered include understanding avalanche reports, assessing the weather and correct orientation in the snowy backcountry. Certified mountain guides will accompany the girls during the days off-piste, providing an introduction into freeriding or, in the case of the advanced camps, expanding on their freeride skills. Each of the O’Neill Girls Freeride Camps presented by Blue Tomato & K2 has 12 spaces for girls over 18 (1 snowboard and 1 freeski group per camp, 6 girls per group) The camps focus primarily on backcountry safety and offer plenty of freeriding experience, as well as a lot of fun!

Beginners Camp:

The beginners’ camps are aimed at all freeride and backcountry-loving girls who want to gain basic knowledge of off-piste riding. In the two days, all the practical and theoretical basics will be covered, such as proper use of safety equipment, terrain assessment, avalanche reports, weather assessment and orientation in the backcountry, as well as tips and tricks for riding technique. The beginners’ camps are NOT directed at novices but instead at skiers and snowboarders who want to learn to ride safely in the backcountry and improve on their basic backcountry skills. Ability to snowboard/ski quickly and safely and good technique on the piste are prerequisites for participation in the camps.

Advanced Camp:

The advanced camps welcome all female freeriders who have already gained some backcountry experience and want to expand their knowledge of risk management, checking for dangers, terrain evaluation and correct line choice. Active freeriding is priority number one of the advanced camp, therefore good physical condition and ability to ski safely in the back country are prerequisites! If possible, participants should bring their own touring-ready freeride equipment (touring poles, touring bindings, skins). If this is not possible, K2 will provide equipment on-site (be sure to state this during registration).
