My first pro deck was a green Powell Vallely - which I bought in spring 1989 at Split Skates in Manchester - so there is a component of nostalgia here, for me. :-) I have been a Powell Peralta fan since the eighties and have started riding Powell's birch decks last year - and I now have them on all three of my setups. Not only is the price nice - they feel great and I do not really see or feel much of a difference between them and maple wood. Pop is great. They only thing I have noticed is that they seem to be a little more prone to chipping than maple boards. I am currently riding this exact deck on one of my setups - the green 8" version.
