From October 10 to 12, 2025, Freestyle Roots celebrates its fifth anniversary – and once again transforms the area around the Stockhorn Arena in Thun into Switzerland’s freestyle capital. For the anniversary, the festival presents itself as even more creative and diverse: with an expanded skate setup, additional live acts, and new formats like the Ultimate Rap Battle.
After expanding the snow setup (2023) and the bike setup (2024), the spotlight in 2025 is on skateboarding. The setup is being enlarged and now includes additional ramps, allowing for more creative lines and simultaneous riding by multiple skaters. There will be open sessions and contests for kids, women, and men.
As always, Freestyle Roots bridges the gap between sports event and music festival: during the day, international athletes impress in disciplines like bike, snowboard, ski, skateboard, trampoline, breaking, and graffiti. In the evenings, live acts and DJs take over. On Friday, Jule X and the Schlagerboyz will fire up the crowd, before rap collective Chaostruppe hits the stage on Saturday – followed by an afterparty in the catacombs. More surprise acts will be announced in the coming weeks.
New this year is the Ultimate Rap Battle, where MCs impress with wordplay, flow, and freestyle skills. This officially makes Thun part of the Swiss MC League – a new highlight in the festival program.
In the ski and snowboard disciplines, Thun will once again be one of five stops on the international Rock a Rail Tour – guaranteeing spectacular runs from top riders from Europe and the USA.
Sunday is family day. There will be workshops and shows across all disciplines that invite both amazement and participation. Kids under 14 get free entry.
While the previous edition focused on kids' activities on the third festival day, Freestyle Roots 2025 is placing special emphasis on promoting girls and women in freestyle sports. Often, it’s the boys who are the first to jump onto a board or bike, while girls tend to hang back. Freestyle Roots wants to change that. Girls and women are encouraged to try out various freestyle disciplines themselves, supported at all times by trained coaches ensuring support and safety. There will be special courses and open jams in snowboarding, skiing, breaking, skateboarding, and biking, making it easier to get started and providing space for growth and progression.
