What to expect
For more than 45 years, La Nuit de la Glisse has brought a new original film to the big screen every year, produced and directed by Thierry Donard. This year, he and Olivier Sautet present The Call, which follows a new generation of athletes answering the call of nature. They search for the perfect line, the right move and that fleeting moment when commitment, mastery and the elements become one.
The film builds a bridge between generations. It links the story of Garrett McNamara, from the first tube Thierry Donard filmed at Jaws to the discovery of Nazaré, with that of Conor Maguire, a new name in big-wave surfing taking on the cold, powerful waves of Mullaghmore. In French Polynesia, freediver Sanda Delija continues the legacy of Davide Carrera. In the Dolomites, the Weger brothers ride steep couloirs, following the lines of Matt Annetts. In Chamonix, Sam Favret continues a story that began with La Nuit de la Glisse. The landscape has changed since then. The mountains are less stable, the seasons less predictable and the ocean wilder. The Call goes back to the tracks of a story that began more than 40 years ago, and shows that commitment is lived as much behind the camera as in front of it.
With Davide Carrera, Matt Annetts and Garrett McNamara, and in memory of Ueli Kestenholz, a historic athlete of La Nuit de la Glisse.
