Freeskiing: from powder pillow runs to late season park sessions

Over the past years freeskiing has experienced a huge upwards trend – before that, all adrenaline junkies went for snowboarding, but nowadays it is two boards that dominate. In a rather short period of time, freeski – especially freestyle – was able to catch up with snowboarding in popularity and even reached the same level of technicality in international competitions. Double and Triple Corks are now a daily business, just like the 1080’s were ten years ago.

From park to powder

Many riders - like Fabio Studer, Josh Absenger and Martin Hauck– choose an unspoiled backcountry terrain as their playground. They used to be the showpieces of the big parks of the Alps, but now they realize their own film projects off piste and carry out park tricks also in the deep powder. Thus, freeride and freestyle walk hand in hand while the freeskiing scene experiences a major push.

Characters that enhance the Freeski scene: Henrik Harlaut, Ahmet Dadali and Luca Tribondeau

Frankly speaking, we don’t need to say much about Henrik Harlaut. . If you don’t know this guy, there is no more time to waste! His gangster riding style with afterbangs, the extreme baggy style as well as his dreadlocks are the trademarks of this wild swede. Even more recognizable is the creatvity the Armada and Blue Tomato Team Rider expresses in the park. In 2013, he won the X Games' Big Air Finale, as the first freeskier ever to land a Nose Butter Triple Cork 1620 in competition.

When talking about style, you have to get familiar with our Blue Tomato Team Rider Ahmet Dadali. This extremely stylish rider might not be familiar for the mainstream audience due to the fact that he spends most of the time riding in front of the camera. Less competitions but more filming all around the world – as member of the "Level 1" film production he has contributed his awesome film part to the Freeski scene, every year since 2008. On the demanding field of urban skiing, there is nobody that can outperform him. Even if his street spots seem to be unrideable, he surprises his viewers every time.

Of course then there is a familiar name from the Austrian Freeski scene: Luca Tribondeau. This rider from Carinthia has showed off his freeski skills at the 2014 Sotchi Olympic Games where his signature move, the Triple Cork, pushed him to the international A-league.
