The days are becoming longer and the nights are shorter, the snow is slowly fading away and the boards and skis are being stowed away in the basement again. This can only mean one thing - summer is just around the corner and of course this brings along the Blue Tomato summer catalogue for 2018!
In order to be able to present the latest summer trends, we started our work one year ago. Multiple departments, the models and our photographersSam Strauss and Marcel Lämmerhirt have put all their energy into making 196 pages full of trends, must-haves and great products, for you to look through and fall in love with.
But let's get back to the beginning. Already in the summer of 2017, the purchasing team was busy with looking for the hottest trends and products for 2018. In October we were ready, the outfits were complete and it was time for the shooting. Together with 13 models, we made our way to Spain towards the coast of Bilbao. In our luggage we also had 970 samples, which were just waiting to be set in scene.
Summer, beach and sun are probably three necessary things for a summer catalogue, but this is not that easy in October. The sun seemed to be a bit shy, because on 9 out of 13 shooting days the weather didn't really play along. Of course, we made the best of it and there's no rain in the catalogue.
A shooting like this requires a lot of work and energy, but food and drinks were always provided for. Around 1200 pinchos were devoured by the crew and our models – but they really deserved them. Relaxation was not the only activity for during the shooting breaks. Of course we took advantage of the opportunity, so the crew spent the time before and after the shooting with skating, surfing and playing billiards. A cultural event at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao was also part of the program.
After the shooting it was time to go home again - that's where the real work started. Sorting pictures, writing texts, designing layouts and much more had to be ticked from the to do list. As soon as everything was ready, we started to check and optimize until we were 100% satisfied with the result. Finally the D-day was here: Our catalogue was sent to the printing press. After months of work, we are always proud of our entire team that worked so hard on this catalogue. Cheers to you!
