The massive, bizarre towers of the Pala group protrude from the stony alpine plateau. Climbing here in the southernmost mountain range of the Dolomites takes strong nerves – and strong material.
Our MERINO SHIELD TEC line was designed especially for such long, alpine routes. Just like in Ortovox PALA PANTS, Ortovox use EXTREMELY SCUFF-RESISTANT CORDURA® in the new PALA VEST. In the Martindale test used to test scuff resistance, the primary material was able to withstand over 50,000 abrasion cycles. In high-stress areas, we’ve used an EVEN MORE ROBUST MATERIAL MIX MADE OF CORDURA® (˃100,000 abrasion cycles in the Martindale test), to offer maximum protection from rugged rock faces. In addition, the MERINO SHIELD TEC line is made of polyamide and elastane on the outside and fine merino wool on the inside. This is a mix that guarantees HIGH BREATHABILITY and keeps up with each of your movements on the mountain thanks to the 4-WAY STRETCH MATERIAL that is perfectly adapted for climbing.
Just like the PALA JACKET, the PALA VEST for women has an athletic cut and has been developed especially for climbing. This lightweight climbing vest stands for freedom of movement, flexibility and protection in alpine terrain. In addition, the adjustable seam ensures an optimal, close fit without slipping. In colder temperatures or wind, the neck is protected by the high collar, which is particularly useful on exposed climbs. The breast pocket has space for a map, cell phone, trail bar or other small items that you may need to access quickly during a long day of climbing.
The PALA VEST uses wind and water-resistant (DWR treated) material to provide sufficient protection against wind and light precipitation. The no-membrane design and fine Merino wool on the inside provide ample breathability. Like the PALA JACKET, the light shell has reinforcements in the shoulder and hip area – precisely where protection from scuffing is needed.
This makes the PALA VEST the perfect vest for long days of alpine climbing!
Tested and recommended by the VDBS
Since summer 2018 ORTOVOX has been expanding its long-term partnership with the Verband Deutscher Berg- und Skiführer (VDBS – German mountain and ski guide association) from emergency equipment into the clothing sector. ORTOVOX is not just a supplier for the VDBS, it is now also working together with the VDBS on project development. Products that Ortovox have developed and tested together bear the VDBS logo.

Ortovox came to life when Gerald Kampel and Jürgen Wegner developed the first double frequency transceiver to aid in avalanche victim searches. They have since grown into one of the biggest producers of avalanche safety gear on the market. In 1995 they added merino underwear to their selection, and we have been hooked ever since!
