Bienvenido a Ecuador, Jonas!
The World Junior Surfing Championships in Salinas, Ecuador are over and Blue Tomato Teamrider Jonas Bachan has given his best to represent Austria in a field of world class surfers from all over the world.

Once more Jonas proved that he definitely can keep up with competitors from surfing-countries like Hawaii or Brazil and now he is ranked on place 37 of the International Surfing Association, which is the best result any German or Swiss surfer ever had before.

The Junior Championships itself didn’t turn out that well for Jonas. He started with a really good heat, where he had some banger waves and in the end prevailed over his competitors. During the day the conditions unfortunately got poorer and in his second heat the 16 year old Austrian couldn’t catch as many waves as before and ended up in repechage, where he had to compete directly after a shark-alarm. In this heat Jonas got 3rd and therefore couldn’t qualify for the next round.
Even though the contest wasn’t that successful for Jonas, it was a great experience for him, especially as he was the only surfer competing for Austria. We are very proud of him!
By the way: from Ecuador Jonas directly needed to head over to France to compete in the next contest, the Maider Arosteguy in Biarritz, where he surfed against the European elite and in the end made it all the way to the first place!

At the moment Jonas is preparing for a series of important events in France, Spain & Portugal and in autumn he will fly the Austrian flag at the European Championships on the Azores. Good luck, mate!
