686 was founded in 1992 by Michael Akira, a passionate skateboarder, snowboarder and visionary. Micheal was full of ideas from the very first moment he ever stood on a skateboard in the early 80s and was pretty involved in the progressive skateboarding scene in Hermosa and Venice Beach before a friend introduced him to snowboarding in 1985. In the following years, he worked and snowboarded at his home mountain, Big Bear, and was very inspired by punk, rap and jazz music, as well as by his collection of sneakers and vintage clothing. One day, he reached the point where he realized that if he wanted to do something on his own, he would have to do it at a time when he had nothing else to lose. That was the beginning of
